Our Walks

We strongly advise you to read and follow the safety advice on the Home Page and integrated into the text before going for a walk.

This website cannot be held responsible for any decisions you make relating to your walk.

The walks contain three sections: Chris's description to help her identify the route, supplementary information to help you get a little more detail, and a reminder you will need a map of some sort to give you an idea of where you will be going. The subsequent walks will contain this under one heading and not three. Hope this helps you get the idea of how we have composed the site.

The route descriptions are not highly detailed as pathways can change seasonally and due to land management and weather influences, so its wise to check with YRP Vision Paths and Trails, who maintain a lot of local footpaths, to see if any changes are in force when you want to walk. Or - give them a go but be prepared to make changes - that 's what we do. Be patient though, there are a lot of paths to maintain and as a general rule, they are all in good condition, but we all have to make allowances for natural changes in the countryside which lives by the rules of nature and environmental workforces, not parklands.

Some of Chris's personal pet names for places on her walks include 'Irish Cairn'; Cwm river = Clydach but in the area of the Cwm; Cae Maen = otherwise locally known as the Prairie Cae Maen on the current ordinance survey map indicates one field which is private farm land. Ty'n y Wern is a house on the edge of the old top pit and also marked on the map as the land nearby.

On farmlands and foresty (which covers all of these walks), KEEP TO THE PATHWAYS ; forestry especially is prone to deep cavities in the ground which can cause injury and grassy ground can have deep bog in places.. Be aware of the pitfalls of walking in countryside. It is very different to a park, but amazingly peaceful and beautiful if we keep it that way. Enjoy.

INFO

Supplementary walk route info:

    • v At Coed y Cwm you will need to access the mountain road through the rear of the estate at Hafan Heulog leading into Heol Pen y Foel to find the junction to the mountain road.

    • v At Gellifendigaid farm ruins there is a green barrier across the path straight ahead and also a stony track leading uphill towards a mast and now there is a signpost indicating the new Gellifendigaid Farm is on new ground, up the stony track. The gate and style there will lead you onto the Roman Road.

MAP

A paper copy of the map can be found at the Ynysybwl Regeneration Centre, near the fish shop.

Or you can browse the route on google maps using either the street map or the satalite map (which gives a better idea of the type of countryside you will walk in.
